5 Hour Energy has been known as the undisputed leader of energy shots. They were the first on the market to have a true energy shot that did what we wanted: long lasting energy in a small package. Never have I seen such a marketplace of wannabes and me toos. All the copy cats came out claiming to be better: 6 Hour Energy, 7 Hour Energy, Nos and Rocket Shots. Well, we've sat down and chugged quite a few energy drinks to come up with this list.
The criteria to make the reviews fair:
- Drink can't be more than 2.5 ounces in size.
- At least 48 hours of no caffeine between reviews. This provides none of the drinks to have any affects on another drink.
- All drinks were taken at the same time of day: 8 am in the morning
- Tester took the drink with the same meal: one poptart. This provided at least a little bit of food in the stomach, but not enough to alter the affects of the drink.
- Time was recorded when the drink kicked in, and the noted time the drink wore off.
- Feelings, side effects, and moods were recorded

A side note: You won't find any 6 hour energy drink, 7 hour energy drink, or 24 hour energy drink on this list. We tested them, and unfortunately they rank at the bottom of the list. So far the only energy drink that has surpassed the 5 hour mark is 5 Hour Energy's Extra Strength coming in at 5 hours 40 minutes.
